2024 Annual Banquet Award Winners

West Monroe-West Ouachita Chamber Celebrates Excellence at Annual Banquet

 

The West Monroe-West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce (WMWO Chamber) gathered community leaders, businesses, and members for its Annual Banquet on December 2, 2024, at the West Monroe Convention Center. The evening, themed “Our Time is Now,” highlighted the year’s accomplishments and honored outstanding individuals and organizations whose contributions have significantly impacted the community. The event featured speeches from outgoing Chairman Brandon Welch, who reflected on 2024’s successes, and incoming Chairwoman Jennifer Zimmerman, who introduced the Chamber’s 2025 theme, “Make it Matter.” Attendees were treated to a retrospective video of the Chamber’s initiatives and celebrated local achievements with prestigious awards. The event was title sponsored by Mashi Epting, LLC and presented by: Cameron, Hines and Company; Blake Wheelis State Farm, Centric Federal Credit Union, EPC, Johnny’s Pizza House, JTB Rentals, Graphic Packaging Int.,  Pinnacle Family Health,  and the City of West Monroe

Award Highlights

  • Public Safety Officers of the Year
    These awards honored exceptional first responders for their unwavering dedication to protecting the community.

    • Steven Gautreaux of Acadian Ambulance was recognized for nearly three decades of life-saving work and mentorship. As a Critical Care Paramedic and Senior Field Training Officer, he has trained countless EMS professionals, earning accolades such as the Meritorious Service Award and the President’s Performance Award.
    • Captain Josh Murphy of the Ouachita Parish Fire Department has dedicated over 11 years to fire and rescue services, excelling as a paramedic and team leader. He is also known for organizing the department’s annual toy drive, spreading holiday cheer to local families.
    • Deputy Daniel Sams of the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office, a recent academy graduate, was honored for his bravery and quick thinking in life-saving and crime-solving situations, including responding to a severe injury and apprehending a burglary suspect.
    • Officer Ron Chapman of the West Monroe Police Department was celebrated for nearly 30 years of service and his leadership in community policing, including initiatives like “Coffee with a Cop” and bicycle safety programs.
    • Chief Christopher Long, posthumously awarded for his dedication to the West Monroe Fire Department, exemplified integrity and compassion in his leadership. Assistant Chief Sean Rogers, who mentored Chief Long, was also honored for his 33-year career of mentorship and lifesaving work.
  • Power of One Scholarship
    Awarded to Alexus Sinnie, Unit Director of the Boys & Girls Club of North Louisiana, for her extraordinary commitment to local youth. Sinnie balances her role as a mentor, advocate, and leader with pursuing her Master’s degree, providing stability and support for her “club kids.” Her efforts to celebrate milestones, address challenges, and build connections make her a shining example of how one individual can change lives.
  • Luke Letlow Emerging Civic Leadership Scholarship
    Presented to Jonah Baker, a West Monroe High School senior and Eagle Scout, for his excellence in leadership, music, and service. Baker’s achievements include serving as the tuba section leader in the school band, excelling as a brass soloist, and actively leading his church’s youth group. His scouting accomplishments and dedication to service reflect a bright future in higher education and civic leadership.
  • Bert Hatten Community Impact Award
    Captain Jerome Casey was honored for his remarkable journey of transformation and service. Overcoming personal challenges, he has become a beacon of hope for those in need. As the director of the Monroe Shelter, Casey has revitalized the organization, launched partnerships with local nonprofits, and spearheaded initiatives like community meals and volunteer opportunities. His work empowers individuals to rebuild their lives and fosters resilience in the community.
  • Johnny Huntsman Entrepreneurial Success Award
    Awarded to Armstrong Cricket Farm, a family business that has been a cornerstone of West Monroe’s economy for over 70 years. The farm began as a fish bait supplier and expanded into new markets, including pet food and innovative protein products. Known for its bio-secure facility and commitment to quality, the Armstrong family has built a legacy of resilience, innovation, and community impact.
  • A.O. Evans Award
    The Chamber’s highest honor was presented to Whitty Hood, a lifelong leader in banking, healthcare, education, and civic service. Hood’s career spans nearly five decades, including roles as president of Ouachita Independent Bank and chairman of multiple community organizations. His leadership has strengthened institutions like Glenwood Regional Medical Center and the United Way of Northeast Louisiana. Hood’s legacy of dedication and service continues to inspire the community.

Event Highlights

The banquet celebrated the contributions of local leaders and businesses, recognizing the value of collaboration and innovation in fostering growth. Kristopher Kelley, Executive Director of the WMWO Chamber, remarked, "This event serves as a powerful reminder of what we can achieve together. The stories we’ve heard tonight inspire us to continue building a thriving and inclusive community."

As the Chamber looks ahead to 2025, the theme “Make it Matter” calls on members and the community to focus on impactful initiatives that drive economic growth, enhance workforce development, and improve quality of life in West Monroe and West Ouachita.
